Physical Description | Hunter has messy dark brown hair that’s got a slight natural curl to it, often falling into his face whenever it gets too long. He prefers his hair slightly longer and thinks he looks weird when it’s short. His eyes are a mossy kind of green with flecks of brown throughout and are set into an almond shape. For being outside more often than being inside, Hunter has a deeper tan than the rest of his siblings. There are a multitude of freckles across the bridge of his nose and on his face with a noticeable triangle of them formed along the right hand side of his jaw near the hinge. Hunter is tall and lanky with a build that isn’t overly muscular, but not quite sinewy either. He wears specially engineered glasses due to his eye conditions. Hunter has a tattoo that extends from the top of his left shoulder to half an inch above where his wrist bends, and this is a nature piece consisting of various bugs, reptiles and flora from different planets and locations. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Hunter is one of the middle children out of a family with six children, and he is arguably the quietest of them all, with his older brothers Jasper and Brooke often stealing the spotlight from him because of their charismatic nature and outgoingness. Although he loves them all equally, Hunter is closest to his sister Eden and will do anything for her. Hunter has a number of eye conditions that include chromesthesia (a type of synesthesia where sound gets converted to colour with varying shapes and movements), and tritanopia (makes him unable to tell the difference between blue and green, purple and red, and yellow and pink). Due to not wanting to be without his vision for the long recovery time, Hunter declined getting corrective surgery and instead chose to have special glasses engineered and fitted that allow him to see the colours he needs for his work. The latter condition has disqualified him from joining Starfleet unless he has the surgery, but he has since been granted the approval to become a civilian consultant and work alongside Starfleet when required to help with their investigations. He has adapted easily to the changes and works just that little bit harder to make up for what he lacks. Being more of an introvert than an extrovert, Hunter will engage in conversations politely enough until it gets to a topic of interest to him and he will engage in it with great enthusiasm, often becoming extremely expressive. He maintains a handful of close friends who know how to deal with his quirks, much like Eden and her social anxiety, and keeps in regular contact to ground himself when times get tough. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | (S) Has a deep knowledge of all things bug related and can sprout the most random facts regarding his favourites. (S) Even though his career doesn’t call for him to often lift or carry heavy objects, Hunter is surprisingly strong and works out to keep fit enough to his own standards. (S) Hunter is a strong believer in utilising the grief he carries with him over the deaths of his family members to love harder, love often and love without abandon. (N) Despite the vision issues Hunter faces, he often finds it a unique feature about himself and won’t let it affect his mood or what he does on a daily basis. (N) Is a bleeding heart, so to speak, when it comes to wildlife conservation and the preservation of natural life for future generations, attending a number of events and talks about it. (W) He has a strong dislike of fire and its destructive properties from suffering burns as a young child that have long since healed. (W) Has his basic weapon certifications and will use them if necessary but still lacks the confidence to use them effectively and will hesitate to end the life of someone. (W) Hunter has always been a person who lacks the social skills and confidence to walk up to someone new and strike up a conversation and is terrible at flirting. |

Ambitions | Hunter would like to eventually become the head of entomology at either a university or civilian research center and apply his knowledge in a more academic setting by the time he reaches his late 30s. He understands that he would need to continue on with his studies for this to happen but would like to gain some real-world experience beforehand. | |
Hobbies & Interests | (H) Enjoys capturing images of the real world through the drawings he creates with bugs, reptiles, and various plants being the focus of his attention. The majority of these drawings don’t get coloured in the traditional colours of the subjects due to Hunters tritanopia so each piece is unique once it is finished. (H/I) Music has always been a passion with Hunter as he is able to create his own pieces on the guitar using the chromesthesia to his advantage and focus more on the harmony the notes create with the colours he sees. Hunter is very private with the music he creates and has to be convinced to share its beauty with other people. |
Personal History | Hunter was born to parents Dean and Shannon McKenzie, joining older brothers Brooke and Jasper on December 14th 2369. Two years after this, he would be joined by twins Ryland and Eden before Ember would come along to make the family complete. Growing up, Hunter was that kid who preferred to be outside playing in the dirt and with bugs and insects rather than staying inside and playing with the technology available to the family. He was given the nickname Bug Boy by his siblings because of the fascination that soon developed and it stuck throughout his childhood at school and then onto adult life. It was discovered at a young age by teachers that Hunter didn’t exactly see the world the same way that everyone else did and would often get in trouble because he couldn't tell one colour from another, the shades were too close together to distinguish one particular colour over the other. Long discussions between his parents and teachers followed and this eventually led to medical testing for Hunter with him eventually being diagnosed with tritanopia. He begged, he pleaded, he cried to his parents to not make him go through with the surgery to get it corrected because he didn't want to not be able to see even just for a short period of time, and they listened. Dean and Shannon eventually managed to find an engineer who crafted a special pair of adaptive glasses that Hunter still wears to this day. The chromesthesia started to manifest around the age of 12 when Hunter decided that he would take up the hobby of playing guitar and according to his parents and family members, especially his grandmother June, it was a magical experience to hear something so unique each time he picked it up. Trying to explain to people how he was creating the music with colours was quite often a cause of frustration as he wasn’t able to articulate it for them to understand, and he would quite often be labelled a freak or be bullied in other ways. Hunter tailored his secondary schooling around the more practical sciences like biology and did various summer camps to further his knowledge and interests. When he was 17, he managed to pick up some casual work at one of the local wildlife parks that housed exotic reptiles and bugs from different planets and the knowledge he came with got him a permanent after school and weekend job as a “Specialist in Training”. The owners of the wildlife park were so impressed with Hunter that they offered to assist him with going to university once he graduated from high school. After graduating high school, Hunter was accepted into the University of Idaho at the age of 18 with a full scholarship to do a Bachelors of Science (Entomology) and excelled at it, maintaining a GPA of 3.9 and loving life. He even managed to get his first girlfriend, Maddison who was studying to become a Psychologist, and she understood and supported his conditions and his differences. He won’t admit it to many people, but even though it was a mutual breakup, it hurt when Maddison decided to move across the country to Pennsylvania for a job offer, as he’d lost one of his best friends. Once his Masters degree had been completed with a major in Forensic Entomology, Hunter found full time work in the Entomology department of the local zoo but he knew he was destined for something greater than where he was. He recognised his eye conditions would be a determining factor for future jobs he applied for, but after a search online, medical reports submitted and a talk with the local police department, Hunter was able to get in as a civilian consultant. Noise cancelling devices became his best friend when he worked the crime scenes as the amount of noise generated would send his chromesthesia into overdrive, and he wouldn’t be able to work effectively until he was back in the labs in the quiet. Out of sheer curiosity, Hunter eventually applied for Starfleet and was rejected for active service due to his tritanopia, but not his chromesthesia, which was interesting to him. Further discussions with Starfleet Medical explained that a full medical evaluation stating he was otherwise fit to join as a civilian consultant would be the only way Hunter would be accepted into Starfleet. After a long back-and-forth process, he was finally accepted as a civilian Forensic Entomologist. |
