Mission:
Episode 2 - The Sins of History
Location: Holodeck 5 - Deck 6 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD012 0540 hrs
Kiyoshi hadn't always enjoyed working out. It wasn't until his second year at Annapolis that he'd picked up that habit. Before that time he'd just run or did some gymnastics training. He still didn't consider himself a gym rat, but he had been working out three times a week before landing his new assignment, and he wanted to continue the practice.
There wasn't a gym on the Artemis so he'd decided to create on of his own and made it open to anyone who wanted to take advantage of it.
It was 0530 when he stepped inside activating the program that was a replica of they off-campus gym he'd found. It was quaint and old-fashioned, the only thing he'd left out of how he remembered it was the people, assuming real ones were superior to any holo ones.
He started on a cardio machine and had quickly worked up a sweat.
Having heard someone had created a gym program Leo couldn't help but smile at the very thought. Up until now he'd been running laps of the ship, working out in his quarters and whilst that wasn't something he disliked sometimes the company of others did make the experience much more enjoyable.
As he approached Holodeck 5 he noticed the program was already active, his previous thought of company whilst exercising seemingly on more than his own mind. As he entered he saw a slight looking individual doing some cardio work.
"Morning mate." he said as the person looked over. His Australian accent was not thick but still noticeable.
Kiyoshi was lost in the moment, so it took him a beat to look up from his machine. There was another beat as his brow unfurrowed and he smiled.
"Good morning to you too. Glad someone besides me decided to take advantage of my little set-up here. You can get just about any kind of work out that you want."
"I'm Kiyoshi by the way. You?"
"Leo." Leo replied returning the grin. He'd have extended a hand but Kiyoshi's looked sweaty and he was focused on his cardio. Lack of rhythm could sometimes throw people off. "Holo tech is great, but I'm surprised a ship like this doesn't have a gym... or surprised if any ship doesn't. There's only so many times I can run around a deck before I start to make a groove in the carpet." he joked.
The Marine Captain laughed briefly. "I know the feeling. It's why I built this program. "What kind of workout are you looking for?"
"I do weights, cardio, sometimes my own thing if there's mats down." Leo replied. "Got a lot of time when I'm not helping prepare a case for Commander Corin."
"We like some of the same things. I'm more into staying trim and keeping a strong core than building bulk."
"You said something about doing your own thing if mats are down. Are you into any martial arts?"
"Randomly I started fencing recently." Leo replied as he scratched the back of his head. "Not a popular sport and I've only taken a few lessons with the holo-trainer. I'll see how it goes but I'm more a lover than a fighter. Love catching a wave, being in the sun. That kind of thing. Do you know any martial arts? Or what do you like to do?" he asked.
"I've never surfed, which is little unusual, I am an adrenaline junkie. Maybe you could show me how someday."
"I don't fence, but I do practice Kendo and a couple of other martial arts. I could show you sometime."
"Sure, that sounds like fun." Leo always liked trying new things and making new friends. "What do you do on board?" he asked randomly as it struck him he'd not seen them before.
"I'm the new warden. I get to keep all the prisoners in line and accounted for. What about you? What do you do?"
"Prosecutor's paralegal." Leo replied with a chirp as he started using a free weight to do bicep curls. "Can be pretty boring stuff if you're not interested in it. Researching, interview clients and witnesses, day-to-day court case stuff." he added as a vein in his arm began to pop as he exerted himself.
Kiyoshi was trying to focus on the other man's words and for the most part, was successful, His attention was divided, however. Leo was good-looking, he had a thing for blonds, and he found it hard not to let his eyes wander to the flexing bicep.
"Hey, at least buy me dinner first." Leo grinned as he caught Kiyoshi's eyes wander to his arm.
The hue of the Japanese man's face suddenly shifted to a dark red. He was momentarily tongue-tied. Then a thought came to him.
"Sorry, that was horribly impolite, my staring at you like that."
"But."
"I would buy you dinner if you'd let me. You can call it an apology, or a date. Maybe both. It's up to you."
"Let's just go with a date. I'm not shy about my body." he teased as he flexed his bicep, the vein in his arm popping a little. "You can apologise later if the dinner goes well enough." he teased.
"Oh," Kiyoshi said with a smirk, emboldened by Leo's response. "And how exactly do you picture me apologizing?"
"I'll let you think on that. Imagination is a wonderful thing." Leo winked. "I'm sure some thoughts fired through your mind when you were very impolitely staring at my beautiful strong arms." he teased Kiyoshi.
"I won't deny the obvious, but in my defense, my mind was only partially in the gutter."
"People seem to avoid gutter thinking." Leo nodded in acknowledgment of how most people tended to be. "But sometimes the best thoughts come from there... and you don't need to defend yourself. You're not in my courtroom."
The warden held up both hands in mock surrender. "I like the way you think," he said his smirk dissolving into a smile. "But maybe before we spend too much time there, we should maybe have an actual date first. You know if you're interested in that. kind of thing."
"Already agreed to the date Mr Warden." Leo's eyes twinkled. "Right now we can just work up an innocent sweat and sort out details later."
"I guess we did agree to that," Kiyoshi agreed as he stepped away. "And I really do need to get back to my work out."
Leo nodded in agreement. There was a smile now shared between them as they went back to their respective workout areas. Now Leo had something to look forward to later.
