Episode 2 - The Sins of History
Location: Lt. Molaur's Quarters - Deck 4 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD006 1830 hrs
Kaida had several outfits in hand as she pressed the chime to Siadra's quarters. The truth she hadn't told Chris was that she'd never really been in a serious relationship. She hadn't let herself get close to anyone. This was why she was damaged. And yet, she was the one who had convinced him it would be okay if they went on this date. She knew she'd made the right choice. Perhaps together they could both heal. And if things didn't work out, well that was okay too. Life didn't always work out the way people wanted it to, they were both proof of that as well.
Siadra was in mid pinning of the red dress she was working on, she placed the straight pin into the pincushion that was upon her wrist like a bracelet. "I wonder who that could be?" she uttered aloud. Walking over towards the door she opened it and smiled rather warmly.
"Why hello Kaida, please, come inside. Forgive the mess I'm just working on a dress."
In various areas of the quarters there were bins with different colored yarns, sewing supplies, a sewing machine, and a dress form with a red dress upon it.
She cleared a spot moving some fabrics to one side in order for Kaida to take a seat. "Might I offer you some tea?"
"Uh, no thank you. I was just hoping we might have a little chat. I need . . . . well I need some advice and I wasn't sure who to go to." She glanced around, unsure of where she should sit. "I have," Kaida paused not believing that this was coming out of her mouth. "A date."
Siadra moved more things off the sofa so that both she and Kaida could sit down and chat. "A date, that is wonderful. Who will you be going out on a date with? "giving a gentle smile towards Kaida. The sofa now cleared she sat at one end and left the other end for Kaida to have a seat.
"Lieutenant Blake. We've gone to the holodeck a few times and . . . Well I just think he's really interesting and I don't like that he thinks he's damaged due to the accident and the implants." She shrugged. "But the problem is I'm not very experienced and," Kaida swallowed feeling stupid. "I don't know what to wear."
"Ah yes, I don't find him damaged either. He is handsome. I am glad that he is opening up to someone, especially you." giving a warm smile. "I can help you out there, and the one way to find out what you can wear is.. what sort of date you will be taking him on? Quiet stroll along a garden path, beneath a star filled sky? A picnic on a beach?"
"Dinner at my parents farmhouse. On the holodeck of course since we are nowhere near Earth. I was thinking of wearing a dress maybe? But I can't decide. Is that too girly? I don't wear dresses often but a farmhouse seems so . . . . old fashioned. I'm also cooking dinner." Kaida felt like she was rambling and clamped her mouth shut.
"Dinner at your parents farmhouse, that is a lovely setting." Siadra went quiet then she spoke, "Wearing a dress when cooking for someone you like isn't too girly at all. Chris makes you feel comfortable doesn't he. Comfortable enough to wear a dress. Look its not too old fashioned to do cooking in your family's home. Why there was a man who Keema was interested in, she took him to a beautiful rustic cottage and made dinner for him. She dressed feminine, not in her usual cargo pants and a long sleeved tee shirt work wear. He made her feel comfortable enough to show a softer side of herself. Show me the dresses you have picked out to wear."
Kaida took out a couple of them. One was very plain, a dark blue in color with a white collar. She thought of it as more sporty. The other was a flowered dress of very light fabric. Something she thought she had seen women in the 1930's wearing. It just seemed to fit a farmhouse in her mind. "This is the one I was leaning towards. Should I try it on to make sure?"
Looking at the two dresses that had been presented, Siadra smiled, when the 1930's floral pattern was shown. "Yes please I would love to see you try that one on." something of classic nature seemed to just speak loudly to Siadra and
the first host for Molaur was ecstatic. "I do have a changing screen." pointing towards an old fashioned screen which had an image of a waterfall falling into a tropical pool below. She moved over and unfolded it for Sorine to utilize it.
Kaida stepped behind it. She took a deep breath. She was being ridiculous and she knew it. She doubted that Chris would care what she was wearing. He would probably tell her to wear whatever she was most comfortable in, as she would to him. Slipping the dress on, she moved her knees around so the dress twirled around her. It was comfortable and it was pretty in her opinion. "Ok, what do you think?" She asked as she stepped out from behind the screen.
Siadra was quiet for a few moments, just gazing at Kaida. She looked beautiful in that dress and the dress looked beautiful on Sorine. Clapping her hands together with delight, Siadra finally exclaimed. "That is absolutely beautiful, and it looks wonderful on you."
Kaida smiled with a hint of embarrassment. "Thanks. I guess I'll wear this then. I'm not very experienced in dating, I'll be honest. I don't even know what made me ask him. We had been hanging out in various holodeck programs and I've just found him easy to talk to and I like to see that he's opening up a little bit himself and telling me his own stories. So we'll see how this goes." She gave a small shrug.
"I feel that you've been doing fantastic from the small tidbits you have just mentioned. Being comfortable with someone, establishing connections, makes for a very good foundation for something to truly blossom out towards maybe something even more than just friends." Siadra responded. "I've just started seeing, Jonathan Corwin. I knew him before I became joined, while at the Academy, then we lost contact until now. I had a crush on him back then." Siadra giggled. "Keema's been giving me advice when it comes to dating."
"Something in the water?" Kaida asked jokingly. The truth was she had never sought out anyone. She had assumed she'd go through life alone because her past was something that no one else could truly understand. And then she'd met Chris whose past was as close to hers as anyone she'd ever met and she realized that she could show him it was okay to open up to someone a little. What a marvelous and scary revelation this had been. "I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels unsure around here. Thank you for taking the time to walk me through this."
" You are very welcome, I am glad I was able to help out. Let me know how it went. And maybe yes there is something in the water for things happening like this." Siadra giving a chuckle. " I would like to get together with you, this was lovely to have a visit with you and I promise to make certain I'll have more seating, next time." giving a wink.
"Sure. I'd like that." Kaida nodded, suddenly feeling awkward about the whole situation. "Well I better go. I'll see you around." And she headed for the door without another word and without turning around to see if Siadra gave any acknowledgement.
