Mission: Episode 2 - The Sins of History
Location: Central Engineering - Deck 16 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD010 1330 hrs

A little while later, Siadra went to go find Lieutenant Graesyn. She was worried about what those who were going on the away mission may find themselves in. With what happened on Free Cloud, and the injured men who had left, Siadra didn't want anything more dire happening to the next away team. Siadra headed down to engineering.

"Lieutenant Graesyn might I have a moment of your time?" Siadra called out once she stepped into Engineering.

Sarah was hunched over the main console that was attached to the railing between the warp core and the Engineering Bay. She waved over her shoulder but didn’t turn away from the console immediately. “Of course you can; but you’ll have to bear with me while I make an adjustment to the subspace frequency of our core to make it easier for the helm to maintain our position where we are.”

"No worries." Siadra replied moving up to stand next to Sarah.

Once Siadra was at her side Sarah glanced to her and offered a small smile. “What can I do for you, Lieutenant?”

"There is a puzzle that needs to be solved, and perhaps we can solve it together. That puzzle is how we can get the away team or for that matter the ship, to dock with the Nor Class station without raising an alarm." a pause then Siadra stated, "I've not introduced myself properly, my name is Siadra Molaur."

Sarah listened to Siadra’s dilemma and mulled it over for a second before answering. “It’s a pleasure Siadra; I’m sure you are at least semi-aware being here, but I’m Sarah.” She finalized the adjustments she was making and then turned to face Siadra. “That is a bit of a puzzle; why don’t we hit the holodeck so we can run some simulations?”

"That sounds like a lovely idea." Siadra giving bit of a smile. "I prefer a sort of hands on approach when it comes to figuring something out. Shall we? The holo deck on Deck Six should be the closest one for us to get to. Also, welcome aboard the USS Artemis. I'm the chief Scientist."

Sarah stepped to the door and motioned toward the hall. “I will let you lead the way.”

Turbo-lift, the destination given and to Deck Six, the pair was taken. It was but a short jaunt to the Holodeck where Siadra gave pause before entering in.

[Holodeck]

As they stepped into the holodeck Sarah went to the console, speaking to the computer. “Computer, replicate current ship and space locations using data from the ships sensors; from that create a live simulation” she tapped in a few extra metrics and information on the console and then turned to the room as the simulation began.

Even though Siadra has seen simulations before and even utilized them herself, it still amazed her when seeing what others have created. "I do recall capturing readings of 50 lifeforms there. One of which hopefully is the one that had been tagged, in order to find Vamcet."

Sarah tapped the specifics into the console and then nodded to Siadra. “Alright; so it’s the Badlands and transporters are going to be very short range…. I think we should focus on another front. When you found me I was aligning the ships subspace frequencies with those found here naturally so that our warp core acts as a sort of anchor to both conceal and hold the Artemis steady.”

"Much like an anchor for a ship upon the stormy ocean." Siadra responded, giving a nod. "The other front would be? I am all ears for that one. I had thought that maybe a shuttle could help out there?"

“Exactly so!” Sarah exclaimed, glad that her idea had been understood. “Using a shuttle isn’t a bad idea… much smaller profile and I could apply the same adjustments I’ve just made to the Artemis to one easily…. The only problem after that is to figure out how to get past the detection grid that the station likely has up.” She thought for a moment, one finger idly rubbing the edge of her lip and then there was a nearly visible lightbulb moment. “Do we have any runabouts that have a subspace array or something along the same lines as the Artemis’ deflector dish?”

"There is the Delta Class Flyer we have onboard, only one, but that may end up being exactly what is needed."Siadra offered up. "It is sort of our hot pursuit vehicle from what I am understanding. I've not flown in it, but, from what I can tell it has served its purpose rather well."

Sarah pondered it and then pulled up the schematics of the Delta Flyer and examined them. “I think that will work; do we know the frequency and energy type that they are utilizing? It’s a hedge bet but if we can align the Flyer’s subspace field to match the detection grid it should be able to slip through?”

"That we still need to take a look at, Nor Class station, the energy output has to be something that is keeping it afloat what with the energies the badlands are putting out. Maybe almost in the eye of a storm? Wonder if we can send out a signal in order to get a read of their energy signature. " Siadra queried, as she rubbed her chin. "Perhaps my scan I had done to pick up the life forms there, could offer up some information."

“Let’s check it out, I imagine our sensors picked up more than just life forms and if not then we might be able to use a series of shortwave scanner pulses to probe without being noticed.” Sarah looked around the holodeck as the computer finished generating her inputs and then stepped fully into the room which she had input to start in main engineering. “Alright, shall we get to work?”

"Yes, let's do so." Siadra stepping forward as well. "Sort of like echolocation, used by bats and even Dolphins." the chief of science gave a grin to Sarah. "I am looking forward to this."

Sarah chuckled “indeed it should be very rewarding when we meet our goal; let’s start with half-second pulses and gradually step up from there.”

"Okay, and this also reminds me of a sub looking for an enemy sub like in 'Run Silent, Run Deep' using a passive sonar." That was a film that Molaur loved to watch, having had gotten attached to the old style films of Earth. Siadra was ready and sent out the half-second pulses under Sarah's instructions.

Sarah chuckled at the comparison; herself being familiar with the film as it had been a favorite of her fathers. She watched the readouts from the pulses and a smile grew on her face. “Looks like the station is using a standard Cardassian detection grid, which is both good and bad news. On the good side we should be able to utilize a polaron beam to widen the gap without triggering any alarms; we are going to need a good pilot on the runabout though because the moment we activate the polaron beam there is a high risk of a concentrated plasma storm forming locally.”

"I do know of a great pilot, and that is Lieutenant Blake. And perhaps we can figure out a way for the signature of the shuttle to blend in and be undetectable as well? Matching the resonation, I think. The proper words are not coming forth." Siadra giving an apologetic smile.

“Actually that’s a stroke of genius; we can reconfigure the transponder on the runabout to give off a cardassian signature. It won’t fool visual but to sensors it will read as a Cardassian Ship.” Sarah nodded, putting the information into the simulation and then she glanced to Siadra. “Shall we run the first simulation??”

Siadra eagerly nodded, feeling rather excited at this prospect. "Yes please, I would like to see if what we've come up with, will have good results." Siadra was very impressed at the innovativeness of Sarah.

Sarah double checked the input data and then initiated the simulation, watching the holodeck go to work around them to build the scenario. After just a few moments they were standing on a perfect recreation of the runabout and she turned to Siadra. “Okay; obviously Engineering is my spot, we need a helmsman.. who is the best we have on the ship?”

"That will be Lieutenant Christopher Blake, he is an artist and a genius in the way he flies the ship." Siadra giving a confident nod, and moving towards the runabout, "Hopefully the away mission will go well."

“Crossing my fingers.” Sarah sat at the recreated engineering console and pulled up the crew manifest, searching for Lieutenant Blakes file and then nodded as she found it. “Computer, create a holographic version of Lieutenant Blake based on his crew profile and station him at the helm of the runabout and begin simulation.” She indicated the Science console and grinned at Siadra. “I suppose there is only one way to find out how this is going to go, eh?”

"I wholly agree!" rather impressed what Sarah had put together, then took her place at the Science Console. "Ready when you are, and thank you." Siadra's fingers poised ready to take the readings of the test.

Some Time Later

Sarah leaned back in her seat behind the holographic runabouts engineering console and rubbed her temples before looking to Siadra. "It looks as though the biggest threat to the mission, at least in getting to the target is going to be plasma discharges. I don't know about you though but I am nursing the beginnings of a migraine."

Siadra leaned back in her chair, drywashing her face. She was in agreement with Sarah. Lowering her hands and turning her seat to face Sarah, "That was intense. Well done and I agree with you, I 'm feeling a bit tired myself." She rose up from the chair, giving a little bit of a stretch. "With all that you have come up with, I feel the mission will be a success. When you get back, you've got to tell me how things went. Vamcet is a slippery one, and it will be dangerous."

"I gather the ship has some history with Vamcet; I haven't been briefed on much more than what is necessary to do for the engineering aspects but I am sure I'll get more information as the mission looms closer." She chuckled and gave a small smile. "From the readouts we have both gathered it looks like we are going to have to come up with some sort of shield modulation that can either absorb the energy from the plasma discharges.... or redirect them harmless away from the runabout, I am open to suggestion on that front but how about we take a break for today and hand this data over to L.O.K.I. and the computer to continue simulations on that front while we grab a bite and refresh?"

"Loki? Who is that? One of your engineers? Oh you definitely need to tell me about him. And yes, a meal sounds wonderful. I am feeling rather famished." giving a smile, Siadra was certainly feeling rather hungry by this time.

Sarah chuckled, having forgotten that L.O.K.I had only just been fully integrated with the computer in Engineering with the parameters set by Captain Kidd and she cleared her throat before addressing the room. "Loki, introduce yourself to Lieutenant Molaur."

There was a moments silence and then a perfect and proper british voice filled the air. "Hello, Lieutenant Molaur. I am Loki. I am a limited Artificial Intelligence interface designed and built by Lieutenant Graesyn to streamline and aid in day to day and standard operations of Engineering. In the case of Emergency I have limited authorization to take over Main Engineering and partial Engineering Command codes should Lieutenant Graesyn be incapacitated or otherwise indisposed and unable to tend to her duties on board the U.S.S Artemis."

Sarah gave Siadra a wink and grinned. "He is very useful, but certainly one to meet properly when our stomachs aren't trying to devour us from the inside out.

Siadra's jaw dropped open at seeing Loki she barely remembered to close her mouth before she looked at Sarah."Amazing! And you have a point, I would love to meet him properly after we have sated our hunger." she then gave a proper curtsey towards Loki. "A pleasure to meet you Sir." she did have a rather longtime crush on the actor Loki resembled, from watching Earth's old movies.

Sarah smiled and waved Loki off, sending him back to the holo-projectors buffers for the time being. "LOKI, take the data we have here and continue simulations, specifically look for shield modulations that will either harmlessly absorb or reflect the discharges common in the Badlands."

With that Sarah turned to Siadra and motioned to the shuttlecraft door. "After you."
