Timeline: MD010 1130 hrs

USS Canterbury Bridge

"Captain, were in comms. range of the USS Artemis." The Ops officer reported.

"Thank you, Lieutenant, open a channel." Captain T'Lisa Anderson ordered.

"Aye, sir." Lieutenant Muller said bring up the main screen.

The image was that of the Artemis's Bridge. In the Captain's chair sat a large he dark-haired human.

"Good day, Captain Kidd, I'm Captain T'Lisa Anderson and I have a few staff to transfer to your ship." The Vulcanoid captain said. "It is fortunate we caught up with you before you entered the Badlands, is it not?"

"Indeed it is Captain. I don't want to sound unpleasant but we are on a pursuit mission and time is of the essence. Our transporter room is standing by to receive the crew transfers." Marc replied, he was in a rush and at the moment wished that the other Captain was not a by the book Vulcan.

"I understand, Captain." To her Orion Ops Officer she said. "Initiate Transporter." After a few seconds she returned her attention to Kidd. "Captain, please take good care of these officers, they are members of my family." She paused a moment. "Oh, and good hunting, Captain."

Marc smiled he sometimes forgot how possessive Captains could be about their crews, even after they transferred. "Thank you Captain. Will do. Kidd out." The viewscreen went black and Marc waited a beat as he thought of how life goes on and crews forever change, but the ship remains. "Lieutenant Blake resume pursuit course, maximum warp. Lets go get em." The Luna Class Artemis turned slightly away from the USS Canterbury and entered warp, back on the chase.

Yvette and her fellow officers materialized on the Transporter Pads in Artemis's Transporter Room 2. The former intel officer hardly had time to get her bearings, before the ship shot to Warp.

Jena stumbled and Yvette caught her before she face planted with the deck. "Steady, ma petite." She said.

"Thanks Aunt Evie." Jena said regaining her balance.

T'Arel stifled a laugh, but was glad the young woman was unhurt.

"Your uncle Jean-Pierre teased me about taking up dancing, but it always keeps me steady, and I got the last laugh, Bianca loves to dance and now he has to do so too, to keep her happy."

Jena laughed. "I bet he looks handsome in a tux." She said.

"I bet Bianca thinks so." Yvette said picking up her carryall and heading for the transporter.

Handing him a PADD with her and Jena's orders, she said. "Lieutenant Yvette Beauvoir and Ensign Coln Jena reporting aboard.

"Ma'am, ma'am, we are currently engaged in the apprehension of a fugitive, and the Captain has given orders that you head to your quarters and he will meet with you at his earliest convenience."

He verified their orders and added their assigned quarters to the PADD, before handing it back.

"Thank you, Petty Officer." Yvette said and she and Jena left the Transporter room.

T'Arel approached the Petty Officer. "Lieutenant T'Arel Madison, reporting aboard." She said to him, handing him her PADD.

"Ma'am, we are..."

T'Arel interrupted him. "Its okay, I heard." She said. "What I would like to know is, is there a bar on this vessel? Transporters always leave me in need of a stiff drink." She paused a moment. "No offense." She added with what she hoped was an apologetic look.

"Ma'am there is the Sidebar Lounge on Deck 5." The Petty Officer replied an handed back her PADD.

"Thank you, you're a life saver." T'Arel said. "Good day, Petty Officer. That said she left Transporter Room 2 in search of some Sauran brandy.

Having finally found the Lounge she walked up to bar, "Sauran brandy, my goodman." She said to the Bar Tender.

The Bar tender gave her an odd look and poured her drink. "Are you new here ma'am?" He asked handing her the brandy.

"Yes, how did you know?" T'Arel asked taking a sip of her brandy and feeling the warmth of the liquid sooth her nerves.

"Well, the other customers don't tend to ask for Sauran brandy, much less in the middle of the afternoon." He replied.

"Its okay, I only take it medicinally." the Vulcan said and looked around to find a seat.
-----
The briefing on the Badlands had just ended and Marc remembered that there had been some crew transfers from the Canterbury that he was scheduled to meet with. He tapped his comm badge. "Lieutenants Beauvoir and Madison, and Ensign Coln please report to my Ready Room. Kidd out."

Yvette and Jena arrive outside the Captain's Ready Room not long after the summons, and pressed the door chime just as T'Arel arrived.

"Come on in." Marc said to the door. He knew who was on the other side. "Lieutenants, Ensign welcome aboard the Artemis. Sorry, for the quick meeting but it can't be helped. Not when the chase is on."

"On behalf of myself and the others, I'd like to say thank, sir." Yvette said. 'We understand that the timing of our arrival wasn't perfect."

"Not exactly, but, I am glad we were able to get you aboard before we got to the end of the hunt." Marc began and sipped his coffee. "Now, tell me why here? I mean that the SCIS is not for everyone, let alone we are a new unit. I do not believe that anyone is going to get any glory or what have you here. So, I always like to ask my crew why they chose this assignment."

"I spent most of my career in intel, and I'm good at it, but sometimes you need a change." Yvette said. "I originally trained to be a security officer, so I thought my training and experience could be use here, sir."

T'Arel thought for a moment. "Well, captain I like to see why things happen and pull things apart, and I thought I'd get in less trouble doing that than I would on any other Starfleet vessel." She said.

Jena was last. "I like to help people, and if I can use my training to do so, more's the better, sir." She said.

Marc thought for a moment, interesting answers, about what he had expected. "I want you to know that we are going to be dealing with the issues that literally no one else in the Federation wants to deal with. That said you have to make sure that you are mentally ready to see what you are going to see. You will learn that the Federation is not all a utopia of wealth and prosperity. I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but I want you all to be ready for what you are getting into."

"Don't worry Captain, my bubble was burst log ago." Yvette said. "Working Intel, you get to see the dark underbelly of the Federation."

"I've seen the cracks in the veneer of our Utopia." T'Arel said. "I'm a Vulcan whose parents were killed by Orion pirates operating on the edge of Federation space. My parents were Archaeologists, they were leading a small team of students on a dig. The pirates killed everyone, but Starfleet could spare anyone to investigate. I don't want that to happen to anyone else."

"I have no illusions, Captain, the ship my mother was posted to, the Joseph Banks went missing when I was 14. It was only with the help of my aunt and grandmother, that I was even able to get any information about the ship at all. Starfleet was tight lipped about what happened." Jena said.

That is a little odd that all three of these people have been touched by the criminal element in our society. And yet it makes sense that they are here. Marc thought. "Very well. Do any of you have any questions for me?"

"Captain, I'm a certified Structural Engineer," T'Arel said. "I was wondering, if I'm allowed to help out in Engineering, when not on a case?"

"I don't see a problem with that. However, make sure you discuss this and get it cleared with Lieutenant Graesyn. Engineering is her neck of the woods and I have learned to let engineers do what they do best." Marc said with a broad smile. "If there are no other questions you are all free to settle in for the rest of the day."

"I have some contacts from back in my Intel days, that might be helpful." Yvette said. "Captain, do I discuss this with you, Security, or JAG?" She asked.

"Lieutenant Commander Benson can handle that. This ship has no Intelligence Division to speak of. As such anything that would go through Intelligence goes through Security." Marc relpied. "Now, all of you go relax and enjoy. The real work starts tomorrow."

"Understood, Captain, thank you for seeing us." Yvette said.

"Not a problem. My door is always open to my crew. You are dismissed." Marc said with a smile. He had become more and more amazed with the people who joined his crew. It seemed that this unit drew from all walks of life. This was something that interested and pleased him to no end.

Nodding their acknowledgement, three officers left the Captain's Ready Room and parted ways.
