Mission:
Episode 2 - The Sins of History
Location: Holodeck 3 - Deck 5 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD008 1700 hra
"Oh, wait perhaps I can create an outfit for our creation." Siadra mused out loud.
"Please do," Maya said, turning from her mad scientist computer. "Our creature deserves to look good."
Fenora returned with a pair of arms on a cart. They were long enough for their creature to clasp his hands, but not much more. And, fortunately, they were proportional to the legs. She took her time checking them against the legs and torso, then checking how they fit into the skeletal structure. Finally, she had them positioned to her satisfaction and stood back. "I think it's ready for the doctor to wave her magic wand. Once everyone is done with their part, we can hook our monster up to the electricity and give it life."
Looking at the creation as Siadra pondered on what the monster could wear, a tune popped into her mind from an old earth movie done by Mel Brookes, a scene coming to her mind and she clapped her hands together. "The perfect togs to put on this creation. A black silken top hat, a black cut away coat with tails, white vest over a ruffled shirt. Crisp black trousers, and black shoes with a shine to where anyone can see themselves in it. No matter how he is proportioned, I say there is a need to have style in his clothing."
"Awesome! In some ways class has gone down over the centuries," Nala grinned as she pictured the finished product.
They had everything but the face and clothes before their creature was ready to come alive. "I am prepared to add the organs, muscles, and everything else a body needs for life," Maya said, alerting the others in case there were any objections. When there were none, she pulled the switch on the machine she'd replicated and listened to the hum as the computer filled in everything necessary and added the various fluids. It was a complex process, for which Maya was grateful this was on a holodeck. In a matter of two or three minutes, the humming stopped and the machine clicked off. "My job here is done," she announced with a smile. There was definitely something inherently satisfactory about the simplified process.
"This is going to be so cool!" Nala giggled, finishing with the face.
"Nice face, nice suit, but he needs a red carnation for his lapel." Jena said, a carnation appearing in her hand as if by magic.
Once she verified that all the tubes and cables were hooked up properly, Fenora looked around at the group. "What else does our creature need before we throw the switch?"
"A name?" suggested Viessa, as she prepared to monitor the brain activity of the body, ensuring its proper function. A body, while necessary, was only part of the equation; it needed a working brain, otherwise, it was merely an empty shell. "Upon awakening, they might question their identity, akin to an amnesia patient," she mused.
"What about Boris?" Maya suggested.
Viessa blinked a couple of times, "What made that your first choice?" she asked. "Not that it's a bad name, just not a common one many would suggest first." she chuckled.
"What about Adam?" Jena said. "That was what Doctor Frankenstein called him."
Maya nodded. "That would work," she said to Jena. Although she rather favored using a name from one of the movies for their monster.
Then the doctor answered Viessa. "I was going for the actor who originally played the monster in the movie, Frankenstein. His name was Boris Karloff."
"Or Boyle, for Young Frankenstein," Fenora added. "I think all of them are good, but Boris and Adam are probably better than Peter Boyle, although I liked his monster better." She turned to Siadra. "You're the chief, what do you think?"
While Nala had lots of name ideas, she wanted to hear what names the others came up with.
"There have been various incarnations of Frankenstein, including in some comedies. There was an actor who played A Frankenstein sort of monster his name was Herman Munster, however, the man who played him that I liked was Fred Gwynne. Then there was the man who played Frankenstein's Monster in Abbot and Costello meets Frankenstein. Glenn Strange. And a little piece of trivia, Lon Chaney had played him as well." A pause from Siadra as the movie director within her mind started spouting all sorts of names. "Christopher Lee had also played the Creature in a film."
Siadra stepped up to look at the creation that was standing there, in his fabulous attire, "Perhaps Christopher Adam Karloff?" turning towards the others.
"Christopher Lee was a really interesting man." Viessa said with tone of familiarity. "I think Adam is nice. He was supposedly the first Human on Earth." she shrugged.
"Christopher Adam Karloff it is," Fenora decided. While they were talking, she made sure everything that needed to be done was finished. "Now, the only thing left is to give him a spark of life." She raised an eyebrow. "Lieutenant Molaur, would you like to do the honors? All you have to do is throw the switch."
Siadra was surprised, her heart pounding with excitement. Voices in her mind were cheering. There were times when she had wanted to experience the feeling of bringing something to life!! Siadra firmly grasped the switch, took a glance over her shoulder towards the others, giving a gleeful smile, then pushed the switch upwards. When she heard the sound of transformer heat up, and the hum and then watched the dance of the electrons going up the wires.
"Is it working?" she asked of Fenora and the others.
Nala's hair started to rise because of the electricity flowing through the room.
"Oooohhhh! This is getting fun!!!" Nala tried to keep the squeal to a minimum.
Suddenly, Christopher Adam Karloff took a deep breath, then sat up. "Liiife!"
Because she couldn't resist, Fenora handed Christopher a top hat and cane. "Can you do Putting on the Ritz?"
The monster took the top hat and cane and slowly walked to an open area on the floor. As soon as he put the top hat on his head, a spotlight turned on. Then the music began and he sang, "If you're blue, and you don't know where to go to..."
"Whoa...goosebumps," Nala shivered, completely entranced by Christopher.
Siadra, enchanted by the dance, decided to call for a top hat and a cane. She went up to the side of Christopher, and joined him in the dance routine, with a little flourish of the top hat at the end of the son, Putting on the Ritz She bowed to her partner, then bowed to the others before stepping out from the circle of light. "that was rather fun! Thank you for putting this together." grinning from ear to ear.
"Wait," Fenora said, holding up a hand. "This needs something special. Computer, add a theatre stage and lights to the back of the laboratory." A full stage with klegg lights and red velvet curtains appeared on what had been a back wall of the lab.
"Now, add a full orchestra and chorus line." A full orchestra appeared in a pit that, while it had appropriate lights, chairs, and music stands, still looked like a dungeon. It sat in front of the medium-sized stage.
When the curtains opened, there was a chorus line of men and women in top hats, tails, and tap shoes. Christopher Adam Karloff and Siadra Molaur stood, center stage.
Nala's eyes were as big as saucers by this point, so completely was she entranced by the fantastic fantasy they had created.
